What is sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry involves using medication before your appointment to let you relax during your dental procedure. While you are sedated, you’ll still be conscious unless you are under general anesthesia. Depending on your situation, you can achieve different levels of sedation. The sedation levels are as follows:

Minimal

  • Conscious and relaxed

Moderate

  • Conscious but may have slurred speech or fuzzy memory of the procedure

Deep

  • Close to unconscious but can still be awakened

Anesthesia

  • Unconscious
  • I first came to see Dr. Kern to get my caps replaced from an accident when I was younger. Dr. Kern was very helpful in showing me all the ways in which we could replace and revitalize my smile, which was something I had been ashamed of for quite sometime. She was even patient with me when I went back and forth several times to see the difference between replacing two of the crowns or perhaps changing and having four crowns, to align my smile. I chose to move forward with four crowns. I explained to Dr. Kern that I was to be in several weddings in the near future. Dr. Kern made sure to create a timeline which ensured that all the dental work would be completed in time. At the first wedding the bride (my sister) commented on how white and beautiful my teeth were. She told me she had been whitening her teeth for about two months but they still weren’t as white as mine. At the second wedding two months later, several people commented on how white my teeth were, even though I drank red wine. My experience with Dr. Kern was amazing! She is very personal and always makes sure to say hello when I see her outside of the dentist office. I would recommend her to anyone!
