teeth with inflamed tissue Peri-implant mucositis is a condition characterized by the inflammation of soft tissue around a dental implant. It is an early form of peri-implant disease that has not progressed to the point of tissue or bone loss at the implant site.

Common symptoms include redness and inflammation of the gum tissue surrounding the implant, and in some cases the area may experience tenderness and slight bleeding when being probed or while brushing.

teeth with plaque and bone loss If left untreated, the infection can progress to result in bone loss around the implant- a condition called peri-implantitis. Once it reaches this point it becomes much more difficult to treat, and could lead to loss of the implant altogether.

It is important to work closely with a dentist experienced in treating this condition to determine the best options with the highest likelihood of success.
